298 ABSTRACT The topic of this dissertation deals with the ur banization and socio-economic problems in Iran. The study is an explanatory one end is based on a library reerch. This study consists of seven chapters. In this context, under the title of Emigration and Urbanization, in Chapter 1 emigration phenomenon, its sources, nature, the urban and rural transformation of the population have been emphasized; Chapter 2 comprises urbanization pheno menon in economic transformation in two periods; in Chap ter 2 economic situation of Iran-before and after the Is lamic Revolution, Chapter k considers on economy and ho using in İrari^ Chapter 5 comprises housing problems as one of the most important problems of urbanization, in Chapter 6 skewed growth of the city of Taheran as an example in practice and its contradictions, and in Chapter ? the requirement of the formulation of national urban ization policy in Iran has been emphasized. At the end of this study, a series of recommenda tions concerning tho solution to urbanization problem in Iran, have been made. In this context, some important suggestions are as follows: * The coordinated planning of newly established cities should be sectoral weighted in terms of agricultu ral, industrial, educational and communications problems; * Rendering public services fairly and equelly in the formation of medium and small urban networks; * 3oint Municipalities Fund should be strengthened in order to improve urban management; * Ministry of Interior and autonomous organizations should operate in a coordinated status, on the subject of urbanization.
