Trigeneration systems may be defined as systems where electricity, heating and cooling energies are produced together. When the worldwide energy shortages are considered it is highly important that the energy resources are used more efficiently and consciously. Although used quite limitedly in our country tri-generation systems are able to provide high energy saving and variety especially for buildings with high energy consuming structures. The system enables residential heating in winter and cooling in summer (or both heating and cooling for touristic hotels) and hot & cold water all-round the year using the byproducts of the electricity production process eliminating extra cost. The operational costs drop dramatically. In this study a university whose heating, cooling and electricity needs are provided traditionally for its service buildings ( heating through natural gas boiler, cooling split air conditioning, electricity from the city grid) is modelled into a single tri-generation system that could solely provide heating, cooling and electricity. The aim of this modelling is to determine the most appropriate trigeneration system accordingly with the needs of the respected building. The depreciation period of the tri-generation system which is determined as a result of the calculations made is found as 3.22 years through thermodynamic and economic analysis. The system designed in this fashion was suggested to the project company and the installation of the system at the designated university has been realized. The thermodynamic analysis is detailed in a fashion that includes the loss in the system and the location and the amount of the exergy destruction caused by irreversibility within the system. The exergy loss at the high temperature generator of the double acting absorption system (HTG) was found %32,12, the loss at the high temperature heat exchanger was %21,36 and the loss at the low temperature generator (LTG) of the absorption system was found %14,60. The priority of the locations of improvement on the system have been determined through these calculations.
