SIX SIGMA APPROACH AND APPLICATIONS AT THE COMPANY BORUSANThe Six Sigma method, which is being used during the recent years in foreign literature increasingly, has not been used sufficiently in the domestic literature. The goal of this study is to contribute to filling the void in the domestic literature and also to assist companies that aims to apply the Six Sigma method in their own processes.In the thesis the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improvement and Control) stages of the Six Sigma approach has been examined and the model has been used to define the applications in the Borusan company. This study is composed of three theories and one application chapters. In the first chapter the definition of Six Sigma and it's philosophy is defined and then companies that apply Six Sigma and their benefits from the approach, process adequateness and Six Sigma accounting procedures are discussed. In the second chapter necessary statistical techniques for Six Sigma have been given in detail with examples. In the third chapter the duties and responsibilities of players in a Six Sigma organization is defined and then the DMAIC model and the goals and principles of a Six Sigma organization are defined. The application chapter, which is the last part of the thesis, is about the Six Sigma method used in Borusan company for reducing the delivery times of Caterpillar Spare Parts (from the main warehouse in Belgium). This improvement, which was highly important for the company, was recommended for other processes of the company. |
