Otomobiller toplumların sosyo-ekonomik hayatlarında çok önemli bir yere sahiptirler. Özellikle yerli otomobiller ülke ekonomisine hem ciddi kazanç sağlar hem de önemli miktarda dövizin ülke içinde kalmasını sağlar. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti devleti de bu düşünceden hareketle 1961 yılında Devlet ve Hükümet Başkanı Cemal Gürsel?in emri ile Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları (TCDD)?na yerli otomobil ve motor imal ettirmiştir. 129 günlük fiili çalışmanın ardından 29 Ekim 1961 Cumhuriyet Bayramı törenlerinde, yapımı tamamlanan biri siyah diğeri bej olan iki adet ?Devrim? adlı otomobil kamuoyuna ve Cemal Gürsel?e tanıtılmıştır. Daha sonra Gürsel siyah otomobile binmiş ancak otomobil bir süre gittikten sonra sebebi kesin olarak bilinmeyen bir durumdan dolayı durmuştur. O anda otomobilden inen Gürsel?in söylemiş olduğu, ?Garp kafası ile otomobil yaptık, Şark kafası ile benzin koymayı unuttuk? sözü adeta Devrim otomobillerinin geleceğini belirlemiştir. Her ne kadar dönemin gazetelerinin tümü bu hadiseyi ön plana çıkarmasalar da bu, bir anlamda Devrim ile özdeşleşen bir durum olmuş ve seri üretime geçil(e)memiştir. Ancak, seri üretime niçin geçilemediğiyle ilgili pek çok soru ortaya çıkmıştır. Fakat günümüze değin bu soruların kesin bir cevabı bulunamamıştır. Daha sonraki yıllarda da farklı firmalar tarafından hem montaj sanayii şeklinde hem de Devrim gibi seri halde olmayan yerli araçlar üretilmiştir. Automobiles are very important in socio-economic life of societies. Especially, the automobiles which are produced as native provide both significant gain to the economy of the country and ensure that a significant amount of foreign currency is kept in the country. Acting on this idea, in 1961 with the command of Cemal Gürsel, the Head of State and Government, Turkish Republic State had Turkish State Railways manufacture native automobile and engine. After 129- actual- day working on October 29, 1961 Holiday Ceremony, the two automobiles named ?Devrim? manufactured as black and the other beige were presented to public opinion and Cemal Gürsel. After Gürsel got on the black automobile the car stopped due to an unknown reason after going for a while. At that moment Gürsel said, ?We made automobile by Western mentality, but we forgot to fuel the car up by East mentality? and these words he uttered on those days virtually determined the future of the Devrim automobiles. In spite of the fact that all of the newspapers of the period didn?t feature the case in a sense the situation can be identified with Devrim and couldn?t/ didn?t move to mass production. However, so many questions occurred as to mass production not having been started. Yet, the precise answer to the questions couldn?t be found. Later in time, automobile mounting industry was highly developed and the local vehicles like Devrim whose regular production was impossible to start manufacturing.
