Ahmetler köyünün, Hellenistik, Roma ve Bizans dönemlerinde iskan görmüş olan bir antik kent üzerine kurulduğu, köy içerisindeki evlerde, avlularda ve tarlalarda rastlanan kalıntılardan anlaşılmaktadır. Köyün hemen yakınındaki antik nekropol alanında 1981-83 yılları arasında Bursa Müzesi tarafından yapılan kurtarma kazılarında Hellenistik ve Roma Dönemine ait çok sayıda nitelikli eser ele geçmiştir. Çoğunluğu çeşitli formlarda seramiklerden oluşan buluntular arasında heykel, terrakotta figürinler, metal ve cam objeler de bulunmaktadır. Bugün bu eserlerin bir kısmı Bursa Müzesi'nde olup, diğer kısmı 2007'de açılan Bilecik Müzesi'ne taşınmıştır. Bu eserler hakkında herhangi bir yayın yapılmadığı gibi, nekropole ait kalıntılar da aradan geçen zaman içinde tamamen yok olmuştur. Nekropolle ve seramikleriyle ilgili yapılan bu çalışma, ilk kapsamlı araştırma olması açısından önemlidir. Bu tezde, seramiklerin tanımlanması ve tarihlendirilmesiyle, bölgenin tarihi coğrafyasını az da olsa aydınlatmak ve diğer bölgelerle ilişkilerini saptamak amaçlanmıştır. Some ancient remains encountered in houses, gardens and fields shows that the village had been founded on the ancient settlement whose remains indicate continuous settlement from the Hellenistic to the Byzantine age. Many qualified finds belonging to the Hellenistic and Roman periods were uncovered at the ancient necropolis near the village during rescue excavations made by the Bursa Museum in 1981, 1982 and 1983. Artifacts discovered during these excavations include terracotta figurines, metal finds, glass objects and statues, besides several ceramics with various forms. Today, some of these finds are in the Bursa Museum, while others have been moved to the Bilecik Museum. The finds from these rescue excavations have not been published, and in the meantime the remains of the necropolis have been also completely destroyed. This thesis which is concerned with the necropolis and its ceramics is important in terms of being the first comprehensive and detailed work. The purpose of this thesis is aimed to illuminate slightly the historical geography of the region and determine the relations with the other regions with the identification and dating of the ceramics.
