Kıbrıs, Ortadoğu ve Doğu Akdeniz?de çok önemli bir stratejik mevkiye sahip olması dolayısıyla geçmişte olduğu gibi günümüzde de büyük devletlerin mücadelesine sahne olmaktadır. Rumlar'ın, Kıbrısı Yunanistan?a bağlayarak Enosisi gerçekleştirme çalışmaları 1963 yılında şiddetini göstermiş ve ?Türk?ü imha planı olarak uygulamaya konulmuştur. Rumlar'ın ya tabut ya bavul? politikasına maruz kalan Kıbrıs Türk halkının bir kısmı göç etmek mecburiyetinde kalmış, bir kısmı ise Rumlar tarafından katledilmiştir. Kıbrıs tarihinde, 1963-1967 yılları arasındaki dönemin önemi, Kıbrıs Türk ve Rum toplumları arasındaki fiili bölünmenin bu dönemde başlamış olmasıdır. Bu dönemde Türk-Yunan ilişkilerinde, özellikle de 1963 Kıbrıs Olayları?ndan sonra, Kıbrıs sorunu bu ilişkilerin seyrini belirlemeye başlamıştır. Kuşkusuz, Kıbrıs sorununun çözümü, Türk-Yunan anlaşmazlıklarının da çözümünün başlangıcı olacaktır. Yine bu dönem, Kıbrıs sorununa bağlı olarak, gerek Türkiye-ABD gerekse Türkiye-SSCB ilişkilerinde de belirleyici bir rol oynamıştır. Ege Bölgesi yerel basını da, 1963-1967 yılları arasındaki süreçte, Kıbrıs Türk toplumunun haklı sesini Türk kamuoyuna duyurmaya çalışmış; Enosisi engellemek için büyük çaba sarfederek Kıbrıs Türk halkına büyük bir destek vermiştir. Şöyleki o yıllarda, Türk basınında Kıbrıs konusuna bakış, günümüze göre daha naif, sıcak ve duygusal bir yaklaşım şeklindeydi. Bu durumun, bir anlamda Kıbrıs'ın bilinmemesi ve Kıbrıslı Türkler'e uzak kalmanın verdiği duygusal özlemle de ilgisi vardır. Aslında Kıbrıs-Türkiye ilişkileri bakımından bu dönem daha çok Kıbrıslı Türkler'i merkeze koyan ve onlara belli bir uzaklıkta yaklaşan bir tutumu da yansıtmaktadır. Like in the past, Cyprus has witnessed struggle of powerful countries in this day and age because it has an important strategic position in East Mediterranean and Middle East. Greeks efforts on realization of enosis intensified in 1963 and it was put into practice as ?Massacre on Turkish people. Many Turkish people who were exposed to the policy either death or migration? were forced to immigrate and the rest of them was slaughtered by Greeks. Importance of 1963-1967 period is that the disintegration of Turkish people and Greeks actually began in this period. Cyprus Dispute became important on Turkish- Greek relation particularly after Cyprus events in 1963. Without doubt, the solution of Cyprus dispute will settle Turkish- Greek conflicts. Depending on Cyprus Dispute, this period plays a decisive role on both Turkey-USA and Turkey- SSCB relations. Within the years between 1963-1967, Local press in Aegean Region sought to proclaim the rigths of the Turkish opinion to the public; Making great effort to block Enosis, It gave support to Turkish Cypriots. In that years, the perspective of Turkish press on Cyprus Problem was more sensitive, naive and warmer with respect to these days. This condition is related to the fact that Cyprus is not well known and Turkey is lonely for Turkish Cypriots. In terms of relation between Cyprus and Turkey, this period reflects the attitude that Turkish Cypriots are considered important and are remained distantly. This situation was hardly changed after the period of 1974, the relation between Turkey and Cyprus turned into the relation of dominant- dominated. Being turned into the relation between mother land and young(little) land, it has caused that Turkey has been held responsible for all mistakes of Cyprus. By using the way of language and attitude , Turkish local press has taken responsibility for this erratic relation. Particularly, in the light of information that Cyprus news was censored after 1960 when there was increasing number of oppression, we can understand the situation better. Because press was censored with respect to the publishing of news and photos about actions and incidents in Cyprus owing to the occurences of 6-7 September, 1955. In terms of press, Those days can be called as `dark period? and we see the fact that local press in Aegean Region has made an endeavour in order to make clear to the Cyprus Problem.
