With the recent advancements in the field of modern biotechnology, a number of organisms are modified and delivered worldwide for commercial interests. Organisms known as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), have taken their place in numerious facets of our daily lives. As with other organisms, the corn plant is known to be genetically modified with traditional and modern biotechnological ways. Used especially as foodstuff and an industrial raw material, it is apparent that the detection of genetic modification in corn is important due to a variety of reasons.
In this thesis, corn seeds and corn based products which make up a non-negligible portion of transgenic products worldwide were analyzed with the use of Real-Time PCR method. As a result, of the 22 speciments that were collected, 9 were determined to be genetically modified, with 2 of those specimens being corn seeds and 7 being commercial products |
