İlk örneklerine Batı edebiyatında rastlanan roman, yüzyıllardır önemli bir edebî tür olma özelliği göstermiştir. Roman, Türk edebiyatına XIX. yüzyılda Tanzimat ile girmiştir. İçinde yaşadığımız XXI. yüzyılda tüketim toplumu her şeyi ve herkesi büyük bir hızla tüketirken, farklı dünyaların kapılarını okuyucuya açan roman, diğer edebî türlerin önüne geçerek varlığını sürdürmüştür. Romana artan ilgilinin de etkisiyle son dönemlerde roman, Türk yazarları tarafından daha çok eser verilen bir tür haline gelmiştir. Halk kültürü ve halk edebiyatı unsurları roman türünün edebiyatımızda ortaya çıktığı tarihten itibaren Türk romancıları vasıtasıyla nesilden nesle çeşitli şekillerde aktarılmış ve farklı karakterlerde, farklı eserlerde yeniden hayat bulmuştur. Bu çalışmada 1980 sonrası dönemde eserlerini veren ve en çok okunan yazarlar listesinde yer alan Buket Uzuner, İskender Pala, Ahmet Ümit ve Elif Şafak'ın romanlarındaki halk kültürü ile halk edebiyatı unsurları tespit edilmiş ve halk bilimi çalışma metotlarına göre incelenmiştir. Yazarlarla gerçekleştirilen yönlendirilmiş mülakat yöntemi sayesinde de yazarların bu unsurları, hangi amaçla kullandıkları irdelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Novel-the first examples of which are seen in the Western literature-has become an important literary genre for centuries. Novel has entered to Turkish literature with the Tanzimat period in the XIX. century. Novel, opening the doors of a different world to the reader, has continued the existence thereof by getting ahead of other literary genres in the XXI. century in which we live and in which the consumer society consumes everything and everyone at a great pace. Novel has become a literary genre in which Turkish authors create more works with the effect of increasing interest thereto in recent years. Elements of folk culture and folk literature have been transferred from generation to generation in various ways by Turkish novelists subsequent to the emergence of the novel genre in our literature and have been introduced with different characteristics and in different works. In this study, elements of folk culture and folk literature in the novels of Buket Uzuner, İskender Pala, Ahmet Ümit and Elif Şafak -who have produced their works in the period after 1980 and who are in the most widely read authors list- have been determined and have been examined according to the folk science study methods. It has been examined for what purpose these authors have employed the cited elements through virtue of oriented interview method conducted with the foregoing authors.
