Bu çalışmada Nahid Sırrı Örik'in Sultan Hamid Düşerken isimli romanı, edebiyat sosyolojisi açısından incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Roman, İkinci Meşrutiyet ortamının koşullarıyla serpilme olanağı bulan insan iradesinin çeşitli görünümlerini sunmakta ve sorgulamaktadır. Temel savımız, romanda, geleneğin çizdiği çerçeveden çıkan bireysel irade, akıl ve arzunun hareketinin alabileceği olası şekillerin ve sonuçların gösterilmeye çalışıldığıdır. Romanla toplumsal gerçeklik arasında ilişki kurmaya çalıştığımız bu incelemede, Osmanlı toplumunda yenileşme ya da modernleşme olarak adlandırılan değişimler, yeni toplumun ve yeni insanın oluşumu çerçevesinde değerlendirilmiş ve bu şekilde roman çözümlemesinin toplumsal ve tarihsel temeli oluşturulmuştur.
This is the study of Sultan Hamid Düşerken, a novel written by Nahid Sırrı Örik, in terms of the sociology of literature. The novel is on the human will which has been scattered under the circumstances of 2. Meşrutiyet Period. Our main thesis is that, the novel shows the possible forms and results of human will, reason and passion. In this study we try to establish relations with the novel and social facts. So, the changes during the Modernization period in the Ottoman society are examined within the framework of emergence of new society and new individual. By this way we try to establish the basis of our novel analysis.
