This study is prepared to show that the second year elementary school student can learn saying (deyim). In generally, in order to teach the main language, words and sayings are used as a traditional method. The main scope of this study is that sayings also can thought to the second year elementary school student by using visual and spe-cial (tahkiye) text. For this reason, experimental and control groups, which are randomly selected from Kirikkale city and constructed by the second year elementary school student Fifteen saying from ?Earth and Space? subject and fifteen saying from ?Ani-mals? subject are selected from ?Deyimler Sozlugu?, which is written by Metin Yurtbas, in this study. Preliminary test is done for these sayings. After this test, it is seen that students do not know these sayings. Six stories are written in order to teach five saying in one lesson. Also these stories are also asked to the specialist. In order to explain these sayings to the test group, a painting, which explains both the saying and story, is made by Serdar Demircan, painting teacher. Sayings are thought by using visual techniques in the test group but classical methods are used for teaching these sayings in the control group. After the motivation study, texts, which consist of these sayings, are read to the both group. The meanings of these sayings are found from dictionary in the control group and then it is wanted to use these sayings in the sentences. In the test group, paintings are showed to embody these sayings and it is wanted to comment on these sayings and also expect the meanings of these sayings. After finding the meaning of the saying, it is wanted to match the meanings and paintings of these sayings. Moreover, it is made students, which are from test group, talk about these sayings. After teaching these sayings intermediate test are also done in this week. Ten sayings are thought to the students during two weeks. In third week, repetition and reinforcement studies are done. The meaning of these sayings are written in word card in the control group and painting cards are prepared for the meaning of these sayings in the test group during the repetition and reinforcement studies. Paintings, which are suitable for both the meaning of these sayings and story, of Serdar Demircan are used in the saying card. After teaching of fifteen sayings, final test are applied to the both group. This study is also conducted for the second group sayings.At the end of this study, it is showed that second year elementary school students can learn sayings. Percentage of learning is higher in the test group, which uses visual techniques. In this study it is stated that sayings can be learned from beginning to the teaching of the word. Furthermore, it showed that techniques and repetition are very important in teaching of word and saying. |
