This study, which aims to examine the texts of the work named "Tarih-i Kostantiniye ve Ayasofya (The History of Istanbul and Hagia Sophia)", has contents that can give important information to the researcher about the history of Istanbul. The work mentions about the construction of the city and the reconstruction of other historical buildings in the city.
In the research, several works related to the construction of Istanbul and Hagia Sophia were reached. However, the copies of the Topkapı Palace Library and the Sadberk Hanım Museum Hüseyin Kocabaş Library are taken as the basis for the study. In fact, this work was copyrighted in 1565, however, the accessible copy is the one with the date of 1637. Two copies of this work that we were aware of were compared. As the result, the copy in the Topkapi Palace Library was decided to be the focal point of this thesis study. However, the points that were needed were tried to be used from the other copy. As the result of the analysis of this work, the overall purpose of this thesis study on how Istanbul is constructed and reconstructed is helping the other studies on this subject to complete the whole perspective.
In addition to the copies that constituted the source for this thesis study, it is aimed to benefit from the various studies that mention the construction and the reconstruction of Istanbul. In line with this objective, it is aimed to examine various kinds of works ranging from travels books to chronicles and particularly the encyclopaedic information about Istanbul. |
