"19. Yüzyıl Osmanlı Mimarisinde Oryantalizmin Benimsenmesinde Gotik Etki: Gotik Üslûbun İslami Kökenlerine Değin Söylemler ve Sonuçları" başlıklı tez çalışmasında, Osmanlı'da batılılaşma çalışmalarının yoğun olarak görüldüğü 19. yüzyılda mimari üslup olarak benimsenen Oryantalist üslûp ve bu üslûba etki eden Gotik unsurlar irdelenerek Gotik üslûbun İslami kökenlerine dair öne sürülen beyanlar araştırılmıştır. Öncelikle kültür ve kültürlerarası etkileşim ele alınarak Doğu ve Batı medeniyetleri arasında gerçekleşen kültür hareketliliği incelenmiş özellikle İslam medeniyetinden Batı medeniyetine geçen kültürel birçok nüve ve bunların geçiş yolları örnekler üzerinden aktarılmıştır. Akabinde Gotik mimarinin ortaya çıkışı, Gotik mimari ile İslam mimarisi arasında kurulan bağlantılar, mimar, sanat tarihçi ya da arkeologların konuya istinaden çıkarımları eserler üzerinden örneklendirilerek ele alınmıştır. Son bölüme gelindiğinde Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'ndaki batılılaşma hareketlerinden Dünya fuarlarına, Usûl-i Mimâri-i Osmâni'nin öneminden Neo-Gotik ve Oryantalizmin Osmanlıya olan etkisine ve Oryantalizmi eleştirenlerin bakış açısına dek geniş bir yelpazede bilgi verilerek dönemin sosyo-kültürel yapısı irdelenmiştir.
Gothic Influence on the Adoption of Orientalism in 19th Century Ottoman Architecture: Discourses and Consequences on the Islamic Origins of Gothic Style in this thesis, the orientalist style adopted in the 19th century in which the westernization studies were seen intensively in the Ottoman Empire and the Gothic elements affecting this style were examined and the statements made about the Islamic origins of the Gothic style were investigated. First of all, cultural and intercultural interaction is examined and cultural mobility between Eastern and Western civilizations is examined. Many cultural examples passing from Islamic civilization to Western civilization and their ways of passage have been conveyed through examples. Subsequently, the emergence of Gothic architecture, the connections between Gothic architecture and Islamic architecture, the inferences of architects, art historians or archaeologists based on the subject are discussed through examples. In the last chapter, the socio-cultural structure of the period was given by giving information about Westernization movements in the Ottoman Empire to World fairs, from the importance of Usûl-i Mimâri-i Osmâni to the effect of Neo-Gothic and Orientalism to the Ottomans and the perspective of critics of Orientalism.
