SUMMARY The Syrians that we knew as the extension of city-states which were appeared at the south - west of Mesopotamia 5000 years ago, came and settled in Anatolia as a result of their went on for an indefinite length of time in historic. Meanwhile, it was affected by many cultures lived in Mesopotamia which sheltered all these cultures synthesises. The Syrians had never established a country with their own names in the eras. So, they became a society which dependent on thier cultures. So far, many wars, massacre and pressure could not be enough to broken them off. The main factor which kept them as unity was the Christianity. After accepted the Christianity, they formed their cultures according to Christianity. Hence, this interaction both had an affection on cultures, customs, tradions and on Syriac music. The music of Syriac church reached a systematic forming in churches. The many melodies emerged in this forming were forgotten through the times since the note-writting was not used. Throughout the history, The Syrians who got under the many cultures pressures, got a piece from these cultures and made a nice mosaic in thier own culturel forming. Arabs, Greeks, Turks, Kurds.. etc. can find easily their cultures affects in the Syriac cultures. These affects can be seen more clear in music. The similarities in rhytmic and melodic formings are quite noticeable. They used a musical forming consisted of eight modes in the Syriac Churches. This forming has more similarity with Byzantine and Gregorian modals system. Like the other eastern churches, the music of the Syriac Church was made with the basis of modes. These eight modes were named as "Kodmoyo, Trayono, Tlithoyo, Rbihoyo, Hmişoyo, Ştithoyo, Şbihoyo, ve Tminoyo". These modes were used in certain VIIIperiods in the Syriac churches for centuries. A year was divided into eight weeks and each end of the eight weeks is the starter of the other period. During this eight weeks, many hymns and prayings are sung on the special days that the church decided. As each of the hymns and prayings time is known, their singins' modes are known, too. There are many programme books which include hymns and praying that will be sung in a year in the Syriac Churches. The hymns and prayings in these books were classified according to their characteristic and were arranged. The two choir groups setted up around the tables on where the books included hymns and prayings are put, sing the hymns and prayings accross to each others. The Syriac Churches has maintaned their customery forming and trying to keep it live. While they are doing this, they do not press on the people living in the same area and they have lived according to their beliefs. As a nation, one of our main duty is not to leave Syrians who built their living on tolerant from their lands. IX
