Osmanlı esnaf sistemi, ahlaki ve tasavvufi düşünceyi içerisinde barındıran fütüvvet ilkeleri ile sosyal ve ekonomik özellikleri öne çıkaran Ahilik ilkelerinin harmanlanmasıyla oluşumunu gerçekleştirmiştir. Bu sistem, örgütsel açıdan gelişimini XV. yüzyıl sonları ile XVI. yüzyıl başlarından itibaren var olmaya başlayan esnaf loncalarıyla, kurumsal açıdan gelişimini ise XVII. yüzyılda ortaya çıkan gedik sistemi ile tamamlamıştır. Gedik sistemi aynı zamanda Osmanlı esnaf sisteminin olgunlaşma aşaması olarak da ele alınmaktadır. Çalışmamızın amacı, Osmanlı esnaf sisteminin tarihsel gelişim sürecini ele alarak, bu süreçteki kavram ve kurumları tanımlamaktır. Ayrıca, sonrası dönemlerde esnaf sisteminin içerisindeki yapının, dönemin şartları gereği başka kurumlara ikamesini ve bu kurumlar altında varlığını devam ettirip ettiremediğini sorgulamaktır. Ottoman artisan system achieved its formation by blending fütüvvet principles of moral and mystic teachings with Ahi principles that lay emphasis on social and economic objectives This system has completed its organizational development with the rise of artisan guilds in late 15th and early 16th centuries and its institutional development with the emergence of gedik system in 17th century. Gedik system, at the same time, is treated as the phase of maturity of the Ottoman artisan system as well. The purpose of this study is to examine the historical development of Ottoman artisan system and define the concepts and institutions throughout this period. It also ponders on the substitution of the structure within the artisan system under other institutions at later periods due to the circumstances imposed by the age and whether it has managed to continue its existence under these new settings.
