On altıncı yüzyılın ikinci yarısı, Osmanlı tarih yazıcılığı açısından verimli bir dönemi teşkil etmektedir. Bu süreçte doğrudan tarih konulu olan veya içerdiği konular bakımından tarihsel malzemeye dönüşen çok sayıda eser telif edilmiştir. Eser sahipleri, hadiseleri hükümdarların çeşitli liderlik vasıfları etrafında değerlendirmiştir. Bu vasıflar belirli bir padişaha atfedilmeyip, ortak bir Osmanlı hükümdar kimliği içinde işlenmiştir. Ortaya konan ideal hükümdar tasavvurunun gerçeklerle örtüşmediği durumlarda ise yazarların eleştirel tavrı satır aralarından takip edilebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada yazarların padişahlara ve saltanat kurumuna bakışları incelenmiştir.
The second half of 16. Century marks a time in which Ottoman historiography was on rise. During this period, historical works written were either historical per se or evolved to be historical due to the material it presented. Authors of those historical works evaluated the historical events under the light of certain leadership qualities of the Sultans. The characteristics described in those works did not belong to any particular person but they all contributed to one common image of Ottoman Sultan. Whenever there is a circumstance that this common image does not match the reality, the authors have dropped hints of critique within their lines. This work aims to explore how authors wrote in the second half of the 16th century perceived the Sultans and the Sultanate.
