In this thesis entitled, "Ali Üsküdarî-His Motifs and Method Understanding", the career and methods, of this illumination and flower painter, master of lacquer and bookbinder were studied. In addition, the works of this 18th century artist were examined one by one, the methods that influenced him were researched. Unfortunetly, it was not possible to discover much about his personel life, since little is known about it. Although his unpublished works are not included in this study, some of his unsigned works and the dates they were. produced were discovered based on the characteristics of his style. Twenty-six of his art works were catalogued according to their date as a part of this study. These art works include his decoration of reed pen cases, his decoration and illustration of manuscripts, the framed inscriptions and murakka's (a number of "kitas" by a calligrapher was collected and bound into an albüm). Also, his works of art were analyzed from the viewpoint of an illuminator, and his motifs and designs were shown and grouped in drawings and plans. This thesis considers the most important aspect of his style to be his use of new and classic decorations and methods in such a way that the typical characteristicks of each type of work are not lost. 255 |
