Çalışma.mimari mekanın sunumu konusunda yapılmış tartışmalarla başlar, daha sonra sözel sunumda yoğunlaşır. Esin kaynağı Alberto Perez-Gomez'in, Francesco Colonna'nın Hypnerotomachia PoJyphilibaşhüh. yapıtım yorumladığı Polypbilo or the Dark Forest Revisited adlı metnidir. Amaç, mimari mekanın sözel sunumu için kullanılan yazınsal araç ve yöntemlerin incelenmesi ve mimarlık eğitimi açısından önemli olabileceği düşünülen, 'mekanın, eskiz özellikleri taşıyan sözel anlatımı 'nm tartışılmasıdır. ABSTRACT A SKETCH ON VERBAL REPRESENTATION OF ARCHITECTURAL SPACE: A STUDY ON POLYPHILO AS AN EKPHRASTIC ENTERPRISE Uçar, Haşim Ertuğ Ms. S., Department of Architecture Supervisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emel Aközer May 1999, 52 pages This thesis focuses on the verbal representation of architectural space. It introduces the concept of ekphrasis as an analogue in literature, to sketch, a graphic tool in architectural representation. The study sets forth with an overview of the current debates on the tools of representation of architectural space, then focuses on verbal representation. The generative core of the whole study is the text entitled Polyphilo or the Dark Forest Revisited by Alberto Perez-Gomez which is a retelling of the Renaissance architectural narrative Hypnerotomachia PolyphM by Francesco Colonna. The aim is to examine the literary devices and methods employed for the verbal representation of architectural space, and to discuss the significance of 'verbal sketching' as an effective tool for architectural education.
