Piyano, müzik tarihi boyunca farklı çalgılarla farklı müzik formları seslendirmiş, eşlik ettiği çalgının melodi hattını zengin renk ve armonik olanaklarıyla desteklemiştir. Piyanonun eşlik görevi şüphesiz, çalgının tarih boyunca geçirdiği evrimle boyut değiştirmiş, böylece her dönem farklılık göstermiştir.Bestecilerin keman sonatlarıyla birlikte viyola, viyolonsel, flüt, obua, klarinet, fagot, korno, trompet ve trombon için yazdıkları çoğu sonatta (solo çalgı sonatlarının sayısı daha azdır) piyano, vazgeçilmez eşlik çalgısı olarak yerini sağlamlaştırmıştır.Bu tezde, piyanonun zaman içinde geçirdiği evrimle orantılı olarak keman-klavye sonatlarındaki değişen rolüne ve 19. Yüzyılda geldiği noktaya değinilmiştir. Sonatlar hakkında verilen genel bilgi ve analizlerle piyanonun, sonatlardaki rolünün net bir şekilde anlaşılması hedeflenmiştir.
Throughout the history of music the piano has played different forms of music together with different instruments. It has supported the melody line of the instrument it accompanies with its rich color and harmonic possibilities. Its task as an accompanist has changed with the evolution of instrument and so, differs in each era.Along with the violin sonatas, many composers have written sonatas for viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, basson, french horn, trumpet and trombone with piano accompaniment (sonatas for solo instruments are fewer). Thus the piano has assured its position as the indispensable instrument for accompaniment.In this thesis the piano' s change of role in violin-piano sonatas leading to the point it reached in the 19th Century, has been dealt with. The role of the piano in sonatas should be clearly understood through the general information and from the analysis of the sonatas.
