Birçok dinî gelenekte olduğu gibi, Hıristiyanlıkta da farklı inanışlar, teolojik problemler, ibadet şekilleri, yönetimsel sorunlar vb. konuları görüşmek ve karara bağlamak için üst düzey din adamlarının bir araya gelerek yaptığı toplantılara konsil adı verilir. İçerik olarak; konsilde temel itikadî konular, ibadetler, ayinler (litürji), din adamları vb. konuların yanı sıra; siyasi ve sosyal konularda da kararlar alınmış, Hıristiyanlığın bugünkü durumuna gelmesine önemli katkılar sunmuştur. Hıristiyan tarihindeki konsiller genelde, II. Vatikan Konsili özelde bu çalışmanın temel omurgasını teşkil eder. Çalışmanın ana tezi olan "konsil; Kilisenin (Katolik Kilisesi) sosyo-kültürel ve teo-siyasî olarak tarihte ve sosyal düzlemde var olabilmenin deklarasyonudur" hükmünden hareketle özelde II. Vatikan Konsili, Kilisenin Post/modern süreçlerde ve küreselleşmenin arifesinde tarihe, teo-kültürel yapıya ve sosyo-politik duruma katılma iradesinin tezahürüdür. Buna bağlı olarak, bu çalışmada önce Hıristiyanlıkta gerçekleştirilen konsiller hakkında ana hatlarıyla bilgiler verilmiş; akabinde de bu konsillerden II. Vatikan Konsili ayrıntılı olarak açıklanmıştır. Bu bağlamda II. Vatikan Konsili'nin gerçekleştirilme sebepleri, konsilde alınan kararlar ile konsil sonrası etkiler bir arada incelenmiş, konsilin küresel çaptaki anlamı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Öte yandan da önceki konsillerden oldukça farklı olan II. Vatikan Konsili'nin uygulama noktasında henüz planlanan seviyeye ulaşılmadığı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Sonuç kısmında da genel olarak konsillerin tarihsel imâları ortaya konulmaya çalışılmış ve özellikle de II. Vatikan Konsili'nin küreselleş/tir/me dinamikleri bağlamında ana hatları ile sebep, süreç, sonuç (kısa, orta ve uzun vadeli)ları yeniden vurgulanmıştır. "Bitmemiş bir Konsil" olarak tanımlanabilecek olan bu Konsil'in gelecek perspektifi açısından durumu kısaca irdelenmiştir. Anahtar Sözcükler: Hıristiyanlık, Konsil, II. Just as in many religious traditions, in Christianity there is the meeting in which clergymen / religious leaders come together in the aim to discuss and take a decision on issues, such as various creedal modes, theological problems, religious praxes, administrative dilemmas, and the like are called council. Contextually, such important issues as fundamentalizm creedal cases, religious practices, liturgies, clergymen, etc. are taken into consideration; not to mention, some social and administrative matters are evaluated and decided. Thence, these councils have given important supportz in bringing Christianity to nowadays. Thus, the main keel of this study consists of general councils in Christianity and particularly of the Second Vatican Council (known also as Vatican II). The main gist of this study is that "council is a declaration of the Church to remain in the history and social context in terms of socio-cultural and theo-political spheres." Hence, it can be adduced that the Second Vatican Council is an expression of participation and taking in salient role in history, the theo-cultural structure, and the socio-political situation in the processes of Post/modernism and in the eve of Globalization. Thence, this study makes the Christian Councils in the history of Christianity subject matter in general terms; then of these councils the Second Vatican Council is explicated in details. In this context, the following issues are discussed, explained, and evaluated: The rationale for convening the Second Vatican Council; the decisions taken in and during the meetings; the effects and results of the Council. What is more, ıt is also taken into account that what and to what extent has the declaration of the Council affected the succeeding phases in the world. In addition, the following situation is lied down in the study: Highly different from the preceding councils, the Vatican II has yet achieved so far what had been proposed with the declaration in terms of actualization. In conclusion, the historical implications of the Christian Councils are re-encapsulated in general terms; and especially the Vatican II is highlighted again in terms of cause, process, and effect within the context of the dynamics of Globalization / Making Globalization in a rough manner. The future predicate and propose of the Council that can be named "Unfinished Council" is also succinctly given.
