The city is one of the first attempts to diversify people's lives and develop as this diversity increases. Urban life, which is one of the rare and inventions of mankind that continues until today, has unfortunately spread throughout the world without including justice and freedom as much as its establishment. Increasing socio-cultural and socio-economic inequalities and privileges caused the reaction of the citizens. As the number of population living in cities around the world increases, the responses increase as well. Therefore, the role of urban problems and concerns is the basis of the reactions of the citizens. As these reactions can be seen in the years leading up to very early periods in the world history, it gained its rhetoric today with the intensive urbanization that started in Europe before the Enlightenment Revolution. However, in the Industrial Revolution and, finally, in the twenty-first century, there have been structural and discursive changes, and more cultural and identity-oriented movements that included more urban elements. Because the number of urban residents increased by not being settled in the city anymore. Following this line of development, why we should say urban movements to the reactions of the citizens will be discussed in this study. The places that these movements have chosen as a port in the process of their formation and the major spaces where these spaces turn into action will also be examined in this study. Beyoğlu district of Istanbul will be investigated as a case study to get a closer look at how the locations of urban movements are determined and how they change. |
