The aim of this research is to examine Michel Foucault's films The Servant and The Trial through the concept of power. The concept of power, which stands out as one of the most important concepts of Michel Foucault's philosophy, has taken on a new meaning both in philosophy and sociology with his thought. As a matter of fact, in Michel Foucault's philosophy, power is not a concept that is handled only with its negative sides. The concept of power should not be evaluated in this way. Power also has a positive meaning that produces and participates in individuals. In this sense, power has surrounded every human being everywhere. Therefore, it is not possible for each of us to be isolated from the spheres of power. Both films were analyzed from this perspective. In the analyzes made, it is seen that the characters in the movie are also surrounded by power relations. Especially in their characters, it has been observed that they cannot escape from this network of relations, and they are also a productive part of it. In addition, it is seen that another concept of Michel Foucault's philosophy that emerges with power is also discussed in the film: power and the possibilities of resistance that pervades everywhere. In the movie, Josef became aware of this power. This is an important finding. On the other hand, in both films, it was observed that the characters were categorized by their fields of power. |
