Bu çalışma farklı dönemlere ait dedektif hikayerinin arasındaki benzerlik ve farklılıkları, ve bu edebi türü etkilemiş veya bu edebi tür tarafından etkilenmiş edebiyat akımlarını incelemektedir. This study examines the relationship, similarities and dissimilarities between different eras of detective fiction, through the aid of literary movements that affected, and were affected by this genre. It defends the idea that detective fiction, as a genre, moves cyclically, returning to its past while using recent methods all the time to renew itself. A close study of Golden Age detective fiction, such as Sherlock Holmes, and the passage to its successor metaphysical detective fiction will be examined in the works of authors such as Jorge Luis Borges and Antal Szerb. A more detailed analysis of The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco will show the development of the hybrid genre of historical detective fiction, derived from postmodern theory. The literary theme of the labyrinth, which is essential to all these writers will be examined in detail, especially in Borges and Eco. The importance of Eco's novel, acting as a cornerstone for both the postmodern novel and detective fiction genres makes it essential for the theorization of the contemporary movement of Post-Millennium detective fiction. The new branch of Post-Millennium detective fiction, such as Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code and Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian, will illustrate the current position of this genre between popular and literary writing. Studying the new popular branch will show both the themes utilized and discarded along the path, formulating the current condition of detective fiction.
