Istanbul, although it has hosted many societies for centuries, it is now becoming the symbol of spatial and cultural disintegration. As being the most distinct symbol of this dissolution, satellite towns are discussed within the scope of spatial disintegration. Satellite towns have many dynamics which need to be discussed apart from spatial disintegration. Başakşehir 4th and 5thphase apartment complexes, which were started to be built in 1998 and completed in 2012 by a private company supported by government, are the sample of this study.
This thesis objects that the life of Başakşehir satellite towns can not be explained only by macro theories such as globalization, modernization, neoliberal transformation policies and spatial segregation. It aims to present a new point of view, discussing the results of spatial disintegration through the concept of space production in Başakşehir 4th and 5th phase apartment complexes and addressing, on the one hand, the members of power who design this settlement, on the other hand, people's tactical abilities and production against this phenomenon of power. The discovery of the case of Başakşehir can be ensured through harmonizing familiarized knowledge again and filtering this knowledge. |
